Down memory lane: New York City – now, then and way back when

I seem to make it to New York once in ten years. The first time I traveled there I was an exchange student and traveled in a group of other exchange students in April 1990. The city was too huge and too loud for me back then, but I still have some nice memories of the trip. Did most of the tourist must see things back then and many never again. These pictures are smaller than the others (they are scanned from 7×13 cm pics)

In August 1999 I was back – this time to see Bruce Springsteen in New Jersey. It was a very hot summer and I spent many hours walking the streets of New York. (These are scanned from 13x8cm pics)

In October 2009 once again I was back and once again Bruce was the reason. After seeing him in Philly I took a trip to see how the City had changed. I did not look hugely different (apart from Manhattan Skyline of course), but it sure felt different.

“Wa’ss loss met dä Stadt, wa’ss loss met däm Land,
wa’ss loss met Manhattan, wa’ss loss met däm Babylon,
dat ich jekannt?
He’ss irj’ndjet verdrieht, he’ss irj’ndjet verkehrt,
wat immer passiert ess, die pass nit heher,
die kläävrije Angs.” (BAP)
