Svalbard, above north Norway, no big deal I thought when I first heard Árstíðir mention they’d play there. I even said something along the lines of “If you can make it there, I can” – little did I know how far out it really is and how expensive it is to travel there (at least on the weekend of their big music festival). Still, I had my mind set on this one and I did find a way, intrigued by the prospects of discovering a new place and experiencing polar night. it turned out to be one of the most intense weekends of my life. Pictures can’t really capture the feeling of silence, tons of snow and the atmosphere created by blue light. I didn’t even try to capture my dog sledding adventure, just looked at the clear, star-filled sky above and enjoyed the northern lights. The pictures here show you Longyearbyen, the northern most settlement on this planet. If you want to experience what it feels like to be there, you’re going to have to take the trip yourself though…
