Down memory lane: Asbury Park, N.J. – then and now

“Well now everything dies baby that’s a fact. But maybe everything that dies someday comes back” (Bruce Springsteen)

I visited Asbury Park twice. For the first time I was there in August 1999 during Springsteen’s Reunion Tour. It was a sad place then. The Boardwalk was run down, the Stone Pony closed, the streets empty.

It took me ten years to return. On a windy October day in 2009 I was back and surprised at how much it had changed. The Palace gone and the Casino gutted, but the Stone Pony reopened and the Wonder Bar in place. The Boardwalk and the Convention Hall looking much better restored with shops and all.

Here are some impressions from both trips.
